about

Hi, I’m Kinov.

I’m a developer and hardware hacker based in Shenzhen, the world’s electronics workshop.

What Kinov Hacks is

Lots of great gadgets ship with hardware that can do far more than the stock firmware allows. I team up with the makers, dig into the firmware, and build the features I wish they had. My first one turns a screen keyboard’s lighting into an Apple Music visualizer, with synced lyrics on its little screen.

Build in public

I film every hack as I build it, bugs and dead ends included, and post it on YouTube. When a hack works, the firmware and a flashing guide go up on this site.

Partner-with-makers model

  • I work directly with Shenzhen manufacturers, not around them.
  • Hacked products sold here are made in partnership with the original maker.
  • Where the maker agrees, I help open-source their firmware so the community can build on it.
